Eventually, at least one time in your life, you might come across someone that stutters while they are speaking to you. No matter what you may believe, it might surprise you to know that only approximately one percent of the world’s population stutters. There are various methods that can be learnt, that will help you get rid of it and allow you to speak fluently.

Many people will start stuttering when they are very young and some may actually stop as they get older. But if you are not among the fortunate ones whose stuttering disappears on its own; there are techniques that will teach you to overcome this problem.

Let us look at some simple and interesting tips on how to stop stuttering:

This first thing may sound really funny but it does work for the people that have tried it in the past. You might think of it as a weird idea but when you practice it, you will be surprised at the effectiveness.

You could practice reading to people that you know. This will also help you get use to speaking in front of people, calming your nerves.

Try to see your words in your head before you actually start talking.

Talk slowly and clearly. This gives you time to focus and control your speech before you actually start talking.

Take a deep breath before you say a really big word. You might even want to break it into smaller words as you try saying it.

Chew on gum or candy while you speak.

Try speaking either very loudly or in whispers. Other people might be annoyed by this but it really does work.

Holding your breath while speaking is a big mistake; this will only make the condition worse. You want to be able to speak when you exhale.

You will stutter more when you are tense. Try to calm yourself down before you speak in front of other people. Some people may even meditate in order to help.

Relax and speak slower. This will help you speak in a relaxed manner.

Don’t try speaking a very big sentence at one stretch. Speak one word at a time and slowly complete the sentence.

You will want to try all of these tips in order to improve your speech but you might need to practice in order to see results and this may take time. It will be difficult practicing these tips initially but over a period of time, you will be able to overcome your fear and will be able to speak fluently.
